HistoryQuest is a free single-player browser game where you guess the cities behind historical and cultural stories. Read five clues, place pins on a globe or map, and earn points based on how close your guesses are.
The game is designed for curious players who enjoy connecting familiar names, inventions and events to real places. Its current bank contains 500 questions, focused mainly on the United States and Europe.
How the questions are presented
Each clue describes a particular connection between a story and a place. The answer stays hidden until you submit your guess. The reveal includes the city, your distance, the points earned, a short explanation and a source link.
The six topics are People & pop culture, Music & movies, Inventions & brands, Food & drink, Events & city stories, and Sport & games. Random selection means you may encounter the same question again in a later round.
Access and accounts
All game topics are free. You can play as a guest or optionally sign in with Google. You do not need to install an app to use the website.
Your summary scores currently stay in the browser where you play. Account sign-in does not yet synchronize that summary between devices. Read the privacy page for details about how the site handles data.
An independent game
HistoryQuest is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by GeoGuessr or GeoHistory. These games share an interest in geography, but HistoryQuest has its own questions and gameplay.
The current game centers on five-question solo rounds and topic practice. We describe features that are available now rather than promising features that have not been released.
