HistoryQuest turns a history question into a location challenge. Instead of choosing one of four answers, you place a pin on an interactive globe or flat map. The closer your guess is to the answer city, the higher your score.
The question bank focuses mainly on cities in the United States and Europe, with other destinations mixed in. Stories cover everyday culture as well as major events: people, music, movies, inventions, brands, food, sport and city history.
Choose the history you enjoy
A mixed round gives you five random questions. Topic rounds let you focus on one area of interest. Every topic uses the same map guessing format and distance scoring.
- People & pop culture: connect familiar names and works of art with places.
- Music & movies: locate the cities behind entertainment milestones.
- Inventions & brands: find where ideas and businesses took shape.
- Food & drink: explore the places connected with well-known tastes.
- Events & city stories: discover memorable moments in urban history.
- Sport & games: locate competitions and sporting milestones.
Practice remembering places, not just dates
A date can help you recognize a story, but the answer is a place. Pay attention to the event described rather than assuming that every question about a person asks for their birthplace.
After each guess, the game shows the correct location, an explanation and a source link. Read those together: the map gives you the geography, while the explanation gives you the reason that city matters.
How difficult is the quiz?
Rounds mix easier clues with more challenging ones. Precision still matters even when you recognize the answer: guesses within 10 km earn 1,000 points, while distant guesses receive much less.
There is no subscription required for any topic. You can play as a guest, start another random round and try to beat your score out of 5,000.
