Find the place behind the story

This geography quiz starts with a written clue. Work out which city it describes, then find that city on the map. You need both trivia knowledge and a sense of where places sit in relation to one another.

HistoryQuest uses a satellite globe with a flat-map option. Borders and place labels help you navigate as you zoom in. The question asks for a city; the map helps you turn that answer into a precise location.

Use a continent-to-city approach

Start broad and narrow your guess. Identify the likely continent, then the country, then the part of the country. In the United States, knowing the state is a useful intermediate step. In Europe, nearby cities can lie in different countries, so check borders carefully.

Finally, zoom in before placing your pin. Guessing near a city you recognize is better than choosing the center of a large country when you know the answer is elsewhere.

  1. Use coastlines and major geographic shapes to orient yourself.
  2. Read state and country boundaries before committing to a pin.
  3. Look for the city label at a closer zoom level.
  4. Compare both pins after the reveal to understand the size of your error.

Why location accuracy matters

A question is worth up to 1,000 points, with the full score awarded within 10 km. Long distances reduce points sharply, so a correct country alone may not earn a strong result. Five questions make a round worth up to 5,000 points.

You can switch between globe and map views depending on how you prefer to navigate. Both views submit a geographic pin and use the same scoring.

A geography game for people who like trivia

The game fits players who enjoy city knowledge, history and everyday cultural stories. It uses text clues rather than Street View scenes. You learn the answer through an explanation and source link after each guess.
